From 1920 to 1947, the University Interscholastic
League (UIL) crowned only one schoolboy football champion in Texas. From
1920 to 1938, the sole state schoolboy football champion came from Conference
A
Schools in Conference B, played only to a regional championship. Starting in 1939, the UIL added another "A" to the state championship eligible conference, to become Conference AA. Teams in Conference A and Conference B continued to play only to a regional title. Beginning in 1948, the UIL divided the state into four separate conferences; CITY CONFERENCE, CONFERENCE AA, CONFERENCE A and CONFERENCE B, with a state football champion crowned from each conference, except Conference B, which continued to be limited to a regional championship game. In 1951, the UIL implemented its current format of Conference A, Conference AA, Conference AAA and Conference AAAA, with a state champion crowned from each. Conference B also survived the 1951 reshuffling (again, limited to only a regional title). Conference B was later dropped. The other conferences then became A, AA, AAA, AAAA and AAAAA, with each crowning a state football champion. Click the links on the left to see how the UIL aligned the state championship eligible football teams from 1924 to 1959. No information was available for the period from 1920 to 1923, as well as 1943. The UIL football district alignments for the period from 1960 to the present will be added as soon as they become available. Special thanks to the UIL for supplying the information. |
